たちあい【立ち会い】

1 〔出席･会合〕 presence; attendance; 〔証人としての〕 acting as a witness [an observer]; witnessing; observing.

●両者立ち会いのもとに with both parties present [in attendance].

●私ども夫婦の立ち会いで式を行った. The ceremony was held with my wife and myself (acting) as witnesses.

●証人立ち会いの上で in the presence of a witness.

●立ち会いを求める request [ask for] sb's presence 《at…》.

2 【取引】 〔取引所で取引を行うこと〕 a session; a market.

たちあい【立ち合い】

【相撲】 standing up (from a crouch) to wrestle; rising (from a crouch) to charge [attack] the opponent; the face-off; the charge.

●きれいな立ち合いでしたね. It was a clean charge, wasn't it?

●立ち合いがきたない use an unfair [a dirty] tactic at the face-off

・両者立ち合いが合いません. The two wrestlers did not rise to the attack at the same time.

・この一番は立ち合いが勝負のかぎになりますね. In this bout the face-off will be the key to victory.

●立ち合いで相撲の勝敗が決まることは少なくない. It is not infrequent that the initial charge decides a sumo bout.
